Working For Yourself (And Having Doubts)

When working for yourself, the number one problem in running your company is staying focused. Aiming high is great, but rather than attempting to move mountains straight away, focusing on moving a little stone each day could prove to be far more beneficial. By moving each little stone on a daily basis, you can make it a mountain. What we’re trying to say is that it can be hard to accept that you cannot accomplish everything in one day. Once you have taken this on board, you can begin a plan of action for each day, to maximise your time.

Prior to planning your strategy, you should firstly think about what you do each and every day, from the moment you wake to the moment you go to bed. By doing so, you can begin to clearly focus on how you could change your day to suit the needs of your business better.

For instance if you run an internet marketing company, you may choose to focus on back linking with forum profiles or guest posts. By having a specific task set for each period of the day, this will save you procrastinating about what to do next. By focusing, you can help to build long-term success. What does your day look like at the moment?

Just as an example, here’s what my day looked like prior to making changes;

  • Get up at 6am
  • Have a shower and some breakfast
  • Check emails
  • Go for a morning stroll
  • Get to my desk for 8.15
  • Then I ask myself, what do I need to do today? (This is the point where it all goes horribly wrong as procrastination takes over).

By doing a bit of work here and there, we get work completed, but we are not building the success that we require immediately.

So, having written my list, the problem became evidently clear and I knew exactly what needed to be changed. By setting weekly or monthly goals, this would straight away enable me to stay more focused to accomplish my goals. Instead of running from one task to another, where work gets started but usually not finished, you should set yourself small goals where you can remain focused and ensure the tasks gets completed. For example:

  • Earn X amount of money this month – compile a list on how to achieve this
  • Get X amount of new subscribers this month – compile a list on how to achieve this

In other words, the more we can remain focused, the more we will accomplish. For instance, rather than moving from one site to the other, it may prove more beneficial to focus on one site at a time. You could dedicate your time to each site individually by participating in forums and blogs on a daily basis. This should help to increase your visitor count significantly.

By setting yourself small and realistic goals, you will stop spreading yourself so thin. In addition, it helps to evaluate what you have done each day at the end of each day. So, ask yourself each evening…

  • Did I remain focused on the goal I set?
  • Did I put achieve something to move one stone of the mountain?

If you can respond with a rebounding “YES”, then congratulate yourself, in the understanding that you are remaining focused and achieving what you set out to achieve. If, instead, you respond with a sorry “no” – then simply reflect in order to help get back on track. Just remember, you can always do better tomorrow.

Top Biz Opps Tip: Reflect on yourself each and every day to become the best you can be.
